Happy Thursday, y'all! (It's almost Friday!!!)
Today I decided to write a movie review on Lucy. I was super excited to see this movie, and so was my boyfriend. We finally decided to go yesterday, and I am sad to say I expected so much more! Don't get me wrong, it was a good movie, but at times I found myself wishing that action scene had a little more of something, or that someone would speak English! (Yes there were subtitles, but I hate reading a movie!) I did not know this movie took place in Taiwan either, which was something different, but not something I was too impressed with. (Hence me hating the subtitles!)
I was also a little disappointed because the plot was so ingenious! A woman who can access all parts of her brain and do incredible things! I just thought that they could do something so much more with it. The story itself was good, but I think a bigger picture of it, with more details, would have been better. This movie was only 89 minutes, an hour and a half. Other movies are running 100+ minutes.
After the movie ended I told my boyfriend, who loved it, (probably because he thought he would magically obtain super powers) that I wasn't too impressed. I also proceeded to tell him that I had the same feelings about The Purge when it came out. I thought that the overall story line was good, but that they really could have done so much more with the plot. Luckily, the new movie The Purge: Anarchy came out and I loved it so much more than the first one because there was so much more action and truth to it. So, maybe if they do make a sequel to Lucy it'll have more truth. Unfortunately, they didn't really set up the ending for it to continue on, but that's okay.
Before I babble on and on... Lucy, overall, was a good movie. Nothing that blew me away, but I think it's worth going to see because it does have some cool things in it, just wish they had done more with the plot.
Have you seen Lucy? What did you think of it?
Purge: Anarchy WAS really good. My friend forced me to see it and she knew that I didn't really want to, but it held my interest the whole time and I even found myself rooting for the characters! I will probably hold off on Lucy just because I want to see Guardians of the Galaxy first. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's sort of disappointing. It's subtitled, really? I hate reading in movies too. I always say "If I wanted to read, I would grab a book. I'm here to watch!" That's why I never watch foreign movies.
ReplyDeleteIt's not all in subtitles, but a majority of the scenes have people talking in Mandarin Chinese since the movie takes place in Tiawan. At one point during an action scene suspense was building but I had to focus on reading what one man was saying instead of being able to pay attention to details! Very annoying!
DeleteFirst of all.. thanks for being honest! I hate when people doll it up. This is a bummer though. The plot could definitely be played up a LOT. So basically, wait til it comes out in Redbox right? haha no need to spend a fortune at the movies :P
ReplyDeleteYes, I would definitely wait for it to come out on Redbox! No need to spend all that money at the movies.
DeleteI love that you did a review on this because for starters I haven't even seen the trailer or an ad for it. Thank you for the honesty, it is much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to see this! 89 mins sounds short but by the time I get everyone to bed that's about all I can hang for LOL. Great review!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI thought about seeing this, but ya girl is on a budget so maybe I won't waste my $10 now!
